5 Things You Should Know Before Getting Botox

Getting botox may seem like a daunting experience and understandably so. Getting injected with botulinum toxins that paralyze the muscles in your face doesn’t sound all that enjoyable, but the popular aesthetic procedure has excellent results, minimal pain, and if the procedure is done correctly, little to no side effects!

Australians alone spend up to $350 million dollars on botox, according to the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery. With that in mind, there are a few things you should know before deciding if this procedure is for you and don’t worry, you don’t have to search far. We have created a sweet, sweet list of everything you should know before getting botox.

There is no right age to start getting botox

You don’t have to be 30, or 40, 0r 50 to get botox. In fact, a lot of younger people are getting botox in order to prevent deep lines from appearing in the first place. Each time we raise our eyebrows, scowl, or bring our eyebrows together in concentration we are deepening these lines. However, each case is completely individual based on someone’s facial expressions, goals, preferences, and genetics. If you are considering botox, it is crucial you make a consultation with the person that will perform your injections so they can evaluate how your face naturally moves so your botox can leave you looking fresh and youthful, rather than frozen.

Pick a reputable administer

If you are going to let someone inject you with botulinum toxins, make sure it is a nurse or doctor registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Botox is a rather safe procedure, with almost never any permanent side effects. However, to reduce the risks of anything going wrong and to ensure you get the desired results you are after (not looking too overdone, or a short-term eyelid droop) it is important to make sure you go to a reputable injector. There are a few things to check for when choosing the right clinic for you, including checking the doctor’s qualifications, making sure they are a prescribing doctor, and importantly, check what brand of product they are using.

Botox doesn’t last forever

Botox generally lasts between three to four months, depending on the individual with a gradual return of movement. Because botox is only meant to temporarily relax your muscles, once it has naturally broken down and the toxin is completely out of your system, your wrinkles will appear again. This means if you are thinking about getting botox, it usually is an ongoing process to maintain the desired look of injectables.

What will be injected into your face

Botox is the common brand name for botulinum toxin, a protein found in Clostridium botulinum. The way it works is by blocking messages sent between the nerves and muscles which stops muscles from contracting. Usually, this is done in your forehead, between your eyebrows, and around the eyes.

It is important to note that may feel a temporary sensation of a headache or some dizziness after receiving some botox in the head or brow region. This is usually from the slight swelling in the area and usually resolves itself within a half-hour period.

The price of wrinkle-free

In Australia, most providers will charge botox by the unit. This price can vary between $8 to $25 dollars per unit. The cost of botox varies depending on each individual’s face and the desired results they are after. For example, a smaller dose might be one to two units at each injection sight, i.e frown lines, forehead, etc. A more standard dose would be four units at each injection sight. It is hard to give a standard price that fits everyone, but you are likely to be spending anywhere between $250 to $400.

With all this in mind, botox is a great cosmetic procedure that can assist you in stopping the signs of aging and giving you a more youthful look.  If you’re a clinic with clients that simply do not want to make full payment upfront, My Health & Beauty has a payment plan solution that will work for you!
